Located in the region of Puligny-Montrachet, Domaine Robert Ampeau is now run by Michel Ampeau, after his father Robert passed away unexpectedly in 2004. The domaine covers land in 10 Premier Crus, 4 of which are in Meursault, while the other are scattered around Puligny, Beaune, Blagny and Savigny. As an innovative winemaker, Robert was one the first in Burgundy to grow other plants in between the rows of vines as to encourage the roots of the vines to burrow deeper into the soil. He was also among the first to harvest by machine in the region. Showing true respect for the product, Domaine Ampeau only released their wines for sales to the public until they are truly ready (usually at least 5 years).
