Howdy Free Rangers,

Time continues to have less and less meaning as a parameter of modern life, as we collectively careen toward the singularity… unless we really are living in a simulation. Is it really so far fetched? It’s pretty weird out there these days. It’s pretty freakin’ weird in here, too.

As I’ve previously mentioned (i.e. ranted at length), there are two giant distributors that control about 85% of the wine and spirits market in New York. These two companies are way too big, and they run ancient technology on the rails of hammer-dumb systems. They are a chore to work with, and waste a shocking amount of our time, but if you want to carry any whiskey that anybody’s ever heard of, you can only get those products from Southern and Empire. I lose hours of my life each month just to figure out product release dates, and to even have a shot at getting tiny amounts of the rarer whiskeys (often a single bottle for the year). Both Southern and Empire have erroneously reported us (multiple times) to the NYSLA (NY State Liquor Authority) as delinquent, which puts us on COD with the state, and triggers a hold on all other open orders from every distributor in the state, which can screw up a whole week’s worth of deliveries (and potentially cause one to miss delivery of irreplaceable allocated bottles). Southern and Empire operate with monopolistic impunity, because, you know, free markets or something. I can’t think of another business that could get away with treating its customers, and its products, so poorly (besides actual monopolies).

Unfortunately, good smaller producers sometimes get caught up in the gears of these booze behemoths. They are often lost in the tide of high volume brands, and are then discarded, their remaining stock given away at pennies on the dollar. This just happened with Dillon’s Distillers, a small Canadian producer (whose lovely rye we’ve carried for a while), and it seems their elegant bottles will not be distributed in this country going forward, at least for the immediate future. Naturally, we snapped up every case that wasn’t nailed down, and can offer you the significantly discounted prices below. I really can’t recommend their rye highly enough, and I’m as surprised as anybody that we can offer it to you at a price below our previous wholesale cost.

Dillon’s Three Oaks Rye is a lighter style sipping whiskey, much more balanced and less spicy than American rye. Dillon’s Rose Gin Liqueur is a lightly sweet gin based liquor with lovely florals; drink over ice, as an accent to your favorite cocktail, or in a spritz with seltzer or prosecco. Dillon’s White Ryeis a fresh non-barrel aged expression, good for cocktails, and infusions.
