Greetings Free Rangers,
At 19 years old, I submitted a piece of new short fiction to a creative writing professor and editor at The Kenyon Review. With a leathery cackle, through a wide grin of ashtray teeth, he suggested that I stick to football. The joke was on him, I sucked at football. I was just a relatively big kid, a team sport seemed a reasonable place to hide, and I looked pretty good in the uniform. The permanent nerve damage, reconstructed knee, and very likely at least minor case of CTE were the jokes on me. Within four years, I had been published many more times than he had been in his life, though largely non-fiction. Now he’s long dead, and I sell booze for a living, so I’m not really sure where I was going with that, or what part Karma may have played in the outcome(s). But seriously, don’t let your kids play football.
Sorry for being so late with this week’s note, but not for reprising last week’s sale below. So, here’s another shot at those Ridge wines, with an additional discount and a FREE bonus bottle on the Ridge Lytton Springs 2019 6-pack!
Lytton Springs is home to 100 plus-year-old zinfandel vines interplanted with petite sirah, carignane, a small amount of mataro (mourvèdre), and grenache. For more than three decades the field blend from this site has produced the quintessential example of Dry Creek Valley zinfandel.
The vineyard now called Lytton Springs was part of the land once owned by Captain William Litton, who during the last half of the nineteenth century developed the springs and built a hotel just east of the vineyard for San Franciscans who arrived by train to “take the waters.” Paul Draper first saw the vineyard in 1972 and, based on its age (then already 80 years old), purchased grapes and produced Ridge’s first Lytton Springs bottling that year. In 1991, on the 20th anniversary of our first vintage, Ridge purchased the Lytton Springs winery and the old vines surrounding it, making it a true estate vineyard. Most importantly, Lytton Springs is the source of some of the greatest, deepest old vine reds in the known universe.
The offer below is the same as the last e-mail except that the Lytton Springs ’19 6-pack is now $199 ($33 per bottle) and gets you a FREE Magical Mystery bottle from my personal collection (which could be literally anything). Only available through the weekend via the links below!
