Yup Free Rangers,

It’s a FREE vertical Barolo tasting! This one was originally scheduled a few weeks back, a coupla days before some Hallmark holiday, but fell prey to another non-pocalypse. Was supposed to be a snowicane or a sharknado or locusts or something. Regardless, let’s refresh…

So, this week’s FREE in-store tasting is a rare opportunity to experience three different vintages of the same tiny production organic Barolo side by side (by side). And Barolo is of course the most important region in Italy for Nebbiolo, one of their most exalted and expressive grapes. So, tomorrow, Thursday, March 21st (5-7pm) come enjoy FREE tastes of Camparo Barolo 20162011, and 2009. There really is no substitute for comparative tasting in the education of one’s palate. We’re all just making shit up, some of us have just tasted (thousands) more things. Others glean from books what they are supposed to taste in specific grapes and regions and cloak their thoughts in the corresponding veil. But we’ve always preferred to taste as many bottles as we can and let the synapses decide what we taste.

Two factors are primarily at play in vertical tasting: 1) differences between vintages (at harvest) 2) amount of time in bottle; both of which are relatively dependent on each other. It’s complicated, but becomes less so with said juice on your tongue. All week online, and in the shop on tasting day get 20% off a vertical 3-pack, or 10% off the 2016, or 20% off 2016 6-pack! For those of you already familiar with the current vintage of this lovely balanced Barolo known around these parts as Butterfly Wine, you’re welcome to get in on the sale now, and still come taste with us tomorrow.
