It’s a lot. All of it. It’s an emotional rollercoaster out there. The daily tumult at street level is not at fever pitch, but remains at a distorted sustained hum at the lowest frequency that can negatively impact human equilibrium. Besides the maddening repetition of daily sturm and drang of our microcosm here on the corner, the number of smashed windows of local businesses seems at a rate unprecedented in our decade(+) on the Ave. It’s getting harder to make an honest living here at street level. Most recently, this fate befell our friend, Allison, at Tres Belle Petite Medi-Spa, a long-time local institution, modest as its frontage may be. If you are in the neighborhood, and in the market for such services, please check out their spot and services, and show your support for a genuinely kind, hardworking local proprietor. On the yang side, our friends at Cuban Shack just celebrated their first anniversary- in case you missed it and were wondering the source of the delightful music floating down Hoyt Street last weekend. It’s still difficult to walk by that joint and not stop to grab a couple of empanadas to snack upon. We have always felt very lucky to have so many great local shops and restaurants around us, and continued thanks to all of you who make our tiny weird little dreams possible. #BrooklynRules

And this week’s FREE in-store tasting is a very serious one. If you are not aware of Chacra, they produce world class Burgundy style Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in Patagonia. It certainly doesn’t hurt that the winemaker of said Chard(s) happens to be one of the finest grape artists in Burgundy itself, Jean-Marc Roulot. While their most modest offerings are not super inexpensive, the quality per dollar here is amongst the steepest in the world. A recent tasting with proprietor, Piero Incisa, was the most memorable of my year to date. For a fella born into Italian wine royalty, he’s genuinely forged his own path and created a best in show wine project of the highest intent and execution, in a remote region as far from his home resources as he possibly could have. Neat guy. All evidence required is in the glass. The wines are immaculate. You’ll want to come taste these while the tastin’ is free.
