So That Happened, Free Rangers,

Good luck to us all. Anyway. So in our last note, autocorrect un-spelled Neil deGrasse Tyson to Neil Degrassi (Junior High) Tyson. Having deep respect and love for the former, and having never watched the latter (though I know it was a formative tv show for many Canadian nerds), I really should have caught this in editing. #embarassed

Perhaps things were understated last week. People are well beyond freaking out, and genuinely whatever you need to do to maintain your sanity– that doesn’t hurt anybody else- seems reasonable at the moment. So much material has arisen from the sales floor in the last week that it’s difficult to know where to start. A couple of hours on election eve may have very well been the highest level of chaos per customer of all time. That afternoon was a tinderbox resting on a plastic gas can in the Mojave at noon over a bed of shattered glass. And that wasn’t even the day that a woman bit through my sweatshirt, after striking me repeatedly with her phone. Watching the video again now, the random woman who had been walking by was telling the one still actively hitting me that she would call the police for her. Is it usually the one doing the violence who requires intervention? The two women then stayed and waited for said cops as if planning to tell a story they thought would get me arrested. Luckily our video cameras show the assault from several angles, and it was she who left in a squad car. As opposed as I am to the carceral state this was a distressing result of the tumult. However, there wasn’t much to be done after EMS techs (who were super nice and professional (unlike at least three of the cops)) examined the teeth marks on my arm and law enforcement watched the videos. And I am left with the reality that a grown human deliberately bit me that night, then upon release, went online to accuse us of racial profiling on multiple platforms. Krystal, we don’t like you because you are profoundly rude, entitled, and violent, not whatever you want to pretend the reason may be. Things at street level are through the looking glass, and the Jabberwock has one terrible talon hooked upon our collective coattails. Having this tiny platform is a profound refuge. Thank you for being here.

So, who else needs a drink? We can help with that. Turns out our go-to Chianti Riserva by Volpaia just saw a newly posted multi-case discount, and we jumped at it. This is the elevated expression of Volpaia Chianti Classico- a long-time best seller here. You really get the best of both worlds with these bottles: super cleanly made with deep respect for the land, but otherwise very old school in style. As we love passing on discounts to you fine folks, please enjoy 10% off, or 20% off 3+ bottles on Volpaia Chianti Riserva 2020 on the website ONLY all week. This is the best deal of the year on one of our best sellers (per price). Think about your upcoming holiday events and gifting needs, and stock up while the price is best! Now, this week’s FREE in-store tasting is with Brookyn’s own Breuckelen Distilling. Unlike those unforgivable posers at “Brooklyn Gin”, our buddy, Brad, has been making and bottling some of our very favorite local spirits right here in Brooklyn since… well, as long as we can remember, as they began production just a couple of years before we opened our first door. Just a reminder that the big ugly gin bottle with the giant metal seal on it that says ‘Brooklyn’ has never been made here, but the folks that make it have taken legal action against some that actually do produce in Brooklyn, so we won’t carry that crap. Come taste the genuine article this Thursday, November 14th (5-7pm): Breuckelen Glorious Gin, Breuckelen The Local Rye & Corn Whiskey, Breuckelen Oated Cask Strength Bourbon, and our very own exclusive Breuckelen Free Range Barrel Strength Single Malt 6yr Rum Cask, originally release in 2022! Please also enjoy 10% off all these bottles all week on the website and in store on tasting day only!
