Life moves pretty fast Free Rangers,
If you don’t stop and look around once in while you could miss it. I just made that up. And why not? When there’s a conspiracy theorist podcaster running the FBI- literally now in charge of covering up all the investigations for which he used to rail for transparency- what does anything really mean anymore? But that’s the point. The medium is the message. Does that track? Sure, why not. We were fully, deeply through the looking glass by summer solstice 2020 and I’m too many years behind now to assess and name the eons and eras that have washed by the windows of this collective Family Truckster in which we all barrel toward… well, that starts to get complicated (and also darkly simple), doesn’t it.
But one has to take the moral victories where they come. And this last Saturday was a charmed one. It was busy from opening straight through, but at no point was there a notable back-up at the register. The flow was brisk but rapids were low, like a pristine northern stretch of the Saco River. Almost zero memorable jackassery. Numbers were solid, spirits were high, and dog visits were frequent. It started immediately, followed in the door, but not in an imposing manner. And even the guy pondering a single didn’t call it a shooter, and was only interested in the Macallan and Blue Label. Shortly thereafter, looking up from a text to the long lost love of my life, there are two or three groups at once, and Derek enters (early), closely enough behind that they may have arrived together. A couple is excited to see Fortaleza on the shelf and is understanding of the one per customer policy (which is why we have them), so they pick up a some Ocho and G4 as well. Their kids live in the area, we’ll be seeing them, they say. And so on like this. They don’t come that often, so it’s always worth at least a considered, “Huh,” and a toast to in the general direction of the universe. Here’s lookin’ at you, kid.
And we’re doubling up the FREE in-store tastings again this week! First, we’ll be joined by our dear friend, Allie at Wilson Daniels, from whom we procure many of our finest French, Italian, and New Zealand offerings (and some American stuff, but those aren’t part of this event). So, please join us TOMORROW, Tuesday, September 23rd (5-7pm), for FREE tastes of new to the shop Te Mata Gamay Noir, a lighter drier take on a Beaujolais, alongside an elegant Enta Bianco which showcases that telltale red volcanic soil influence, and Royal Tokaji Uragya Dry Furmint, a delicious mineral driven dry white from a well known sweet white powerhouse. As usual, all of the above are 10% off in-store on tasting day only!
Then our regular Thursday FREE in-store tasting welcomes to the shop Albany Distilling Company whose vodka and whiskeys have been staples around here for many moons (though some whiskeys- and alternate sizes- have come and gone due largely to distributor shenanigans- cough, cough, EMPIRE!). So please join us this Thursday, September 25th (5-7pm), for FREE tastes of ALB Vodka, Ironweed Bourbon, and Ironweed Rye from these fine local (upstate) folks! As always, all of the above are 10% off in-store on tasting day only!
