Hey Free Rangers,

You know when you wake up feeling old? Something about an ashtray in an old Wilco song. Can’t recall with which part of the metaphor the listener is suppose to relate, but the ashtray likely shares most of my DNA. Yeah, no, me neither. Spry as the day is long over here. Energy and thoughts spill forth like… something that makes a big pool? If we’re going to run with that heavy handed metaphor. But why? Focus is in short supply. It’s not a tariff issue, but that doesn’t help either. You can’t get there form here. But ya usetacould. Sometimes the weight of it all squelches the notions as they arise. You know? Yeah. Me neither. But we press forth nonetheless. … Wait, what was the question?

Now, we’ve been seriously reconsidering our greater spirits thing, and are pairing down our absurd whiskey section- thanks to those who took a big bite out of our mystery whiskeys sale- and as such, we’re slowly expanding in other liquor and liqueur categories. Well aware that we’ve carried a bare minimum of rums, we’ve picked up the classic Jamaican Appleton Rum 8, 12, and 15 year. And back by popular demand, and admittedly rum has been a week spot in the collection for years, we’ve re-stocked the full line of Ron Zacapa Rum(s), from Guatemala.

While we’ve always carried at least a couple of Rothman & Winter liqueurs– always Creme de Violette– we’ve recently added their Orchard Cherry Liqueur to our shelves, albeit 5 flavors shoved into one shelf spot. These are very high quality liqueurs- called for in many of the most important cocktail books of our time- at a very reasonable price.

Aquavit has been a specific hole in the collection since we last saw the faithfully traditional Swedish and Danish style Svol Aquavit. So we brought those back, bolstering our locally made collection.

Tempus Fugit produce a number of super old school products and we’ve added their classic Creme de Cacao to the label’s shelf spot which also includes Creme de Menthe and Gran Classico– the original Bitter of Turin recipe from the 1860’s.

We’re constantly asked for specific Vermouths, and we’ve just added a delightful and very well priced medium sweet red vermouth from Spain, for sipping, spritzing, and cocktailing, P. Quiles Vermouth, from a winery dating back to the 1780’s.

And we’re never sure how limited these things are, so we may or may not be able to keep these in stock, but as of right now we still have the “limited” Toki Dark, a rich and smoky answer to Suntory Toki. Though I believe at the moment, this one is only available in the shop, hence no link. In the shop, but not online you’ll also find the similarly “limited” Roku Minori Gin.

Whoa, for a second I thought I was forgetting the in-store tasting, but those announcements begin again next time, and we’ll be heavily focusing on local producers. Watch this space! But for those who want to put some dates in the calendar, here’s what the next few Thursdays will look like in here (5-7pm):

2/5: Standard Wormwood Distillery
2/12: Brooklyn Kura Sake
2/19: Kings County Distillery

See you soon.

Cheers,
