Hey Free Rangers,

Corporate consolidation getting you down? Or more the lawless masked thugs terrorizing and murdering people? Yeah, it’s a lot. There’s a fine line between allowing oneself to be consumed by the meathook realities of the day, and avoiding all gaze just to make it through the day. A dear friend in Minneapolis texted recently that it’s war there. The unthinkable has become matter of fact. And in the more hopeful microcosm of this wonderful godforsaken little town, apparently disgraced criminal former Mayor Adams left a bunch of holes and boobytraps in the budget for our new mayor to absorb. Still we’re cautiously optimistic for what Mayor Mamdani and his highly competent hires can accomplish in their first year. And if the blue wave is coming- assuming there are free and fair elections to come- a D led house (hopefully not with current leadership) in Washington would finally have real oversight authority, though tough to say what enforcement could be had when it’s the criminal in chief’s justice department’s job to enforce the law. Pretty sure it still says in all the books that republicans are for small government, state’s rights, and individual liberty. What’s up with that? I have no answer. This is all a distraction before I get to call the company that bought the company that bought the company that now owns the storage space at which I’ve had stuff for approaching a decade. Even though I’m paid up through January (to the previous owners), they keep trying to charge my card for January and February, after instantly raising the rent without reason or notice. And of course the e-mails come from a no-reply address, with no phone number. Sure, it’s complicated, but underneath it’s just basic theft with extra steps. How is this legal? … Anybody else need a drink?

It’s finally here, Free Rangers! The in-store tasting program for 2026 begins this week be welcoming back our old pal Sasha, co-founder of Brooklyn’s own Standard Wormwood Distillery. We’ve long stocked their signature Rye and Agave spirits, and have just picked up all sorts of wonderful bottles, which Sasha will be happy to pour for you FREE this Thursday, February 5th (5-7pm). New to the shop are a less smokey, more tequila adjacent agave based spirit, they call Blue Weber. Also, an amaro, two vermouths, gin, and rum. These fellas bottle some neat stuff. But maybe I’m lying. Join us and let your palate decide. All Standard Wormwood bottles in stock are 10% off in-store on tasting day only! See you there.

And the most recent usually highly allocated whiskey we’ve suddenly found a bunch of is Michter’s Toast Barrel Sour Mash Whiskey. Not sure if the sale price will hit the website as there aren’t that many to be had, but currently is available in the shop at $139 per bottle, one per customer! It’s at the counter, hidden behind the Michter’s Barrel Strength Rye of the same price. Ask and ye shall receive.

Cheers,
