Hello Free Rangers,

First, last week’s whiskey sale is live for one more week!
Just to reiterate, this includes the lowest price in town (the world?) on St. George Single Malt Whiskey Lot 22St. George 40th Anniversary Single Malt, and Lagavulin 11yr Offerman Edition

Check those out here: St George + Lagavulin Sale!

I know I’ve joked a lot about it during these dark years, but my concept of time has been structurally skewed by societal tectonic events. If I’m not looking at a calendar and cross referencing with events whose dates can be actively corroborated, I have very little sense of when any given moment occurred in our current (real?) timeline. I’ve caught myself a number of times referring to ‘last year’ when in fact I’m drawing from memories from the period just prior to pandemic- the Before Times- which was actually 3-5 years ago. Time flies when you’re gettin’ old

So, who needs drink? Cheers to the here and now!

This week’s ONLINE ONLY sale features two heavily discounted 3-packs. The first is an eclectic array of whites we picked up on closeout. Kalin Chardonnay 1997 (that vintage is not a typo) is a fully mature American chard by a tiny producer who holds their wine back for decades. This one displays a deeply rich oxidized dry nutty caramel, that’s halfway to dry sherry but with more expressive texture. Gerard Bertrand Villemajou Corbierres 2017 is medium bodied French white blend that shows fruit born richness with persistent acidity, and excellent overall balance. Gerard Bertand Arte de Vivre 2018 is an almost forgotten grape, Clairette, which comes off like an off-dry Riesling based blend, with a touch of risidual and bright lively acidity, ideal for solo sipping pre or post dinner, or accompanying a spicier meal. Neat juice which as an added bonus comes in a cool ceramic bottle that makes a lovely vase after the fact. Usually $97 on our shelf (which is already well below MSRP) get all 3 bottles for $65, this week only!

We’ve been doing this for just shy of 10 years, and as such many of the cases we put in the cellar for future use are ready to emerge anew. This week’s Cellar Reds 3-pack starts with a classic value label from the Southern Rhone, Pesquier Gigondas 2012, which currently shows lush red fruit, underlying minerality, excellent balance, and deceptive length. Domaine Robert has long been our go-to reasonably priced Cru Beaujolais label, and this Dom. Robert Morgon 2014 is showing juicy fruit splashed atop subtle earth tones, and finely integrated tannin; both crushable and complex. Schiavenza Barolo Serralunga 2016 is a classic Barolo from a top vintage that’s styled to drink in its youth (the bolder of the legendary ‘16s are nowhere near ready to drink) which is somehow silky yet savage; not to be missed. All three of these bottles have significant life ahead if you have the patience and room in your wine fridge, but all are well into peak drinking for immediate use. Normally $148 retail, this week only: $89!
