Hey Free Rangers,

Sure, it’s Wednesday, but welcome to your Free Range Monday e-mail. Once you’ve truly lost concept of time these distinctions no longer affect the message. Don’t mind (or shoot) the messenger, nor his inexcusable tardiness. As one of my favorite songwriters likes to say, “Sometimes life gets in the way.”

It’s a bittersweet symphony and a prawn song for Brooklyn’s own, St. Agrestis. We’ve been carrying every available St. Agrestis product since its renaissance and rebranding, cough-cough number of years ago. They’ve all become abruptly unavailable for the evermore. It seems wine industry plonk-monsters, The Wine Group, purchased St. Agrestis outright, solely for the prominent Phony Negroni NA line, and it seems that fabulous liquor and cocktail line may simply vanish into the ether. What exists in the world at this moment is quite likely it. Luckily for all involved, we had just stocked up before this news came down. More on that in a moment. While we’ve been not so quietly enjoying and extolling their hedonistic virtues, Phony Negroni had not so quietly grown to the point that their entire spirits portfolio was less than 5% of their business. So while we’re thrilled for a couple of our oldest friends in the industry (one of whom is the hardest working man in the gin biz) just picked up their retirement monies, we’re sad to say that what St. Agrestis bottles we have in stock right now- Spritz, Negroni, Boxed Negroni, Amaro Soaked Cherries, Paradiso, Inferno Bitter, and Amaro– is very likely all we’ll ever have to sell you. And serious congrats to Steve and Louis. You guys built something truly great. Not a lot of people can say that. And fewer still are properly compensated for their efforts. Cheers, gentlemen!

Per the above, the fellas tell me that the Inferno Bitter is reasonably stable (*originally sealed and properly stored) for at least a few years to come (I’d say at least a decade, though the color may fade sooner), and the Amaro is all but immortal*. That being said, the remaining cocktails, cherries, and absolutely delicious Paradiso Aperitivo should be consumed in the next year or so to show their best. We don’t have a ton to sell, but more than most, so have it or forever hold your peace. You can also hold your piece, but don’t point that thing at us. Regardless, the more perishables bottles (and jars) are 10% off ONLINE ONLY, and there is a strict limit of 1 each per household on the Red Bitter and Amaro. And we didn’t crank up the price on any of these- didn’t raise ‘em a penny- so you’re welcome. Cheers!

And this week’s FREE in-store tasting welcomes back to the shop our local pal, Josh, from Amaras Mezcal. Amaras Mezcals continue to be some of the finest agave spirits per dollar spent of which we are aware. On top of this, they have deep respect for the land, and conservation is a huge part of their project. This round, we’ll be showing the classic Amaras Espadin and Amaras Reposado Espadin alongside a couple of the rarest and most delicious varietals that don’t often get poured for free. So please join us TOMORROW, Thursday, May 21st (5-7pm), for FREE tastes of Amaras Mezcals, and enjoy 10% off all in-stock Amaras bottles, in-store on tasting day only!

Cheers,
