How’s everybody holding up during these tumultuous times? We’re still adjusting to our new spot at 345 Atlantic. While it isn’t all sunshine and puppy dogs (though gratefully, there have been an abundance of both), one of the best parts of being on Hoyt is sharing a street with the hard working folks at two of our favorite eateries, one brand new and one a true neighborhood institution. Let’s start with the latter. Our friends around the corner at Fast & Fresh have been making some of the best Mexican food of which we are aware since long before we arrived on the scene over a decade ago. In recent years, the small building in which they rent has changed hands more than once, and nobody seems interested to repair the building or compensate this wonderful small business for the losses they’re taking while being shaded under scaffolding. Unfortunately, we live in a town that rewards absentee ownership with huge tax breaks, which is also why so many empty storefronts on Atlantic Ave have changed hands without any real attempt to get businesses in them. They are largely tax shelters for private equity at the expense of local residents, and small business. If you haven’t been in a while, Fast & Fresh remains true to its name, and you should go partake of their delicious food, and support these fine folks! And fairly new to Hoyt, our friends at Cuban Shack have taken as few days off (zero!) as I have since they opened, and everything we have sampled from them has been delicious. I can barely walk by without picking up at least one each of those crunchy delightful empanadas. Please check them out, if you haven’t already.

This is younger, smaller barrel, Maryland Style Rye is a rich and powerful (118.2 proof) whiskey of surprising complexity for its age. On the shelf at $69, it is available ONLINE ONLY via the link below THIS WEEK ONLY at $59 per bottle! That being said, there is an open bottle here in the shop, if you’d like to swing by for a taste.
Also on super sale this week is the lowest price in town on Baker’s Single Barrel Bourbon! It’s a classic Kentucky Bourbon, aged 7 years in full sized barrel, clocking in at 107 proof. And while I meant to order 1 case, according to the e-mail records I ordered and received 5 cases, so you get your bottle(s) shockingly close to wholesale cost at $49 (on the shelf at $59).
