Oh Damn Free Rangers,

It really snuck up this year, or maybe it was already behind us. Has it been getting later and later in the season each vintage, or is this an illusion of context(s)? Should’ve realized from the sideways energy out there recently- and the uneasy ripple through the cockles of my soul- that Atlantic Antic week was upon us. Is upon us… like right now. Dog help us all. It has become so inconsistent since the Before Times that as a local business (who can’t legally do any business outside), we never entirely know what to expect besides drunk tourists trying to use our bathroom, leaving a trail of greasy napkins and remnants of (previously delicious) street food in or doorway. But we always brave it- in one form or another– to be here for all of your wine & spirits needs.

Official open hours today, Sunday, October 5th are 12-8pm.

We may or may not be open earlier or later, feel free to call if it’s getting close (on either side). In anticipation of just barely holding it together today, here’s an early note this week that reads a bit more like a high end community bulletin board.

Now, we’re involved with a very serious (though reasonably priced) whiskey tasting event w/ Lance Winters, Master Distiller @ St. George Spirits, at Travel Bar– the best whiskey bar in the City and the only place I drink whiskey besides this shop and my home. We couldn’t be prouder to be associated with both of these (super friendly) monsters (and masters) of the industry. I’ve waxed moronic in many a setting about how cuckoo for cocoa puffs we all are about the many best in class spirits that these fine fellas produce out of a decommissioned military hangar in Alameda, CA, and their absolutely central bottled accomplishment (and pinnacle of their body of work) is the annual release Single Malt Whiskey (Lot Series). In celebration of St. George Single Malt’s 25th Anniversary, Lance is hosting a talk and vertical tasting of St. George Single Malt Whiskey at Travel Bar, Tuesday, November 18th (7pm) for which you can grab your (very limited) tickets here:

St George x Travel Bar Vertical Tasting

In conjunction with said tasting event, we will make available a number of back vintages of St George Single Malt Whiskey(s) for sale to event guests. Stay tuned to this space for further details as the date gets closer.

And, it has come to our attention that there is a tiny non-profit jazz club on the block (with no address), and there have already been some fairly impressive musicians through there. Speaking of which, I can’t recommend Tsons of Tsunami more highly. The only way to access Lava Club’s schedule of events is through their super secret mailing list which is here (it will not be repeated):

Also, this week’s FREE Thursday in-store tasting showcases a trio of Armagnac, Cognac’s lesser known neighbor where juice is richer and prices are (at least slightly) more reasonable. So, please join us this Thursday, October 9th (5-7pm) for FREE tastes of 10, 12, and 25 year Armagnac (brandy). As always, tasting day bottles are 10% off in-store on tasting day only!

And of course, previous sales that are still live (for now):

All Sean Thackrey wines in stock are 10% off any 3+ bottles or 20% off any 6+ bottles ONLINE ONLY! ***
