Hey Free Rangers,

I just voted for Zohran Mamdani, who I believe to be a true progressive. His potential victory will hopefully lead the sea change in NYC government toward social justice in this great(est of all) cities. On the other end of the spectrum, unrepentant heartless war criminal and profiteer, Dick Cheney, is dead. Free drinks for everyone! In these dark times, it’s important to soak in the moral victories where and when they come. Cheney, a near literal vampire, was responsible for more death and misery than almost any American, besides perhaps Henry Kissinger, but no need to split these hairs, they are the Ty Cobb and Babe Ruth of the Hell of Fame. Our weird sentimental society loves to let evil people off the hook for their atrocities as they age, and doesn’t like to speak ill of the dead, but Cheney was world class monster and should be remembered only as that, just as grandpa George W. Bush is a third generation professional war profiteer and will always be the (sub)human embodiment of the tyranny of evil men, making him maybe the Honus Wagner in this shitty metaphor, and nobody should buy his garbage twilight years paintings. The rewriting of history is a dangerous thing, especially when that history was already largely recorded by the (often evil) victors. There is no crime in calling a murderous monster exactly that, or in celebrating his demise vocally from the mountain tops. It is difficult to express these things without falling into vitriol, but true evil is apparent to those with intellect, integrity, and heart, but I’m trying, Ringo, I’m tryin’ real hard to be the shepherd.

Now, it’s another double FREE tasting week here on The Range, not including today’s free drinks for everybody. First, this Thursday we’ll be showing a couple of whites by Walter Scott, an exemplary Oregon producer of some of the deepest and most intriguing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in this fair land. Many of their wines are quite pricey, and we’ve snagged two of their more reasonable offerings: Walter Scott Chardonnay La Combe Verte 2024 and Walter Scott Chardonnay Cuvee Anne 2023, the latter of which has become one of my favorite white wines in the world, and I’m not sure anybody on Earth has crushed more of the previous (2022) vintage than I. Regardless, you should come taste them with us for FREE, this Thursday, November 6th (5-7pm). I’m sure we have a 3rd wine in the queue for that day, but it escapes me at the moment, so you’ll just have to come down and see what delight you would have missed! All tasting day bottles are 10% off in-store on tasting day! As an added bonus, Derek just set up a Walter Scott sale page with a bunch of their wines at 10% off, or 20% off 6+ bottles (mix & match), ONLINE ONLY all week!

Then on Saturday, we welcome back to the shop Brooklyn’s own Breuckelen Distilling who makes one of our favorite gins that is actually made here in Brooklyn- unlike those contemptible posers at Brooklyn Gin who continue to make their juice somewhere upstate, and really should be court ordered to change their branding to Somewhere Upstate Gin (which we would consider carrying), just as our payment processors should be forced to change their name from Lightspeed to Moderately Paced Processing, but none of these squatters and liars deserve any more of our energy. Back to the imminent tasting at hand, please join us on Saturday, November 8th (4-6pm) for FREE tastes of Breuckelen Glorious Gin, Breuckelen Local Rye & Corn Whiskey, and something interesting from the depths of our archives that has yet to be determine. All tasting day bottles are 10% off in-store in tasting day only!

Cheers,
