Hey Free Rangers,
How’s everybody holding up? Getting by is still the new kicking ass. It’s been a while by our standards. Sorry about that. Sometimes life gets in the way, as one of my favorite philosophers likes to say. And thanks to those of you who have checked in to see what condition our condition is in. I think we’ve missed two of these notes in as many months, but not quite yet two consecutively, so I’m remedying that now. Apologies also to Derek, whose hard work on the website and insisting that the weekly e-mails go there too is why our site comes up on the first page when one googles the vast majority of the bottles we offer. There’s been a lot going on, and sometimes the joys of ownership get in the way of a good writing session. Just got done roof patching to keep water from getting in during current intermittent storms, while still dealing with the ramifications of recent cellar floods, not from the outside, but from the overflowing cellar of the building next door. Not very neighborly. Also, some fairly concerning indicators from our HVAC system that was just serviced, and is awaiting the arrival of another technician as I type. The other side of “never trust a hot wine shop” is that shrieking eel infested open water feeling that comes from summer temperature control issues when the vast majority of your inventory is fairly sensitive to exactly- almost exclusively- this issue. This is a small fraction of the total chaos of the moment (and entirely first world problems- minus the flooding). Much of the tumult on the product side is actually good (not so much the supply chain issues), as far as buying opportunities go. And a lot of older bottles are coming out of deep storage, where we stashed them upon release. Three Barolo(s) of wealth and taste which are visually brand spankin’ new just found their way to the back shelf from the highly lauded 2010 and the comfortably lush 2012 vintages, amongst a trickle of others that will become a wider flow as we trundle toward the quickening of the cooler seasons. Holy hell, it’s been a long summer already, and it’s still only freakin’ July. My blood is too thick for this climate.
Now, this week’s FREE in-store tasting is another bi-polar offering in which we’ll show two fresh crushable Gulp wines in single serving cans, which represent our least expensive wine in the shop. On the other end of the spectrum, we’ll show a super nerdy and absolutely delicious (slightly expensive) dry French Chenin Blanc. All will be chilled and awaiting your arrival TOMORROW, Thursday, July 30th (5-7pm)! As usual, all of the above will be 10% off in-store on tasting day only!
Cheers,
Jack
