| Ya Know Free Rangers, I really enjoy the cellar work. I had to start my own thing just to get a decent gig as a cellar rat. Even at the lowliest post in the vintage wine scene, who would’ve hired me? I used to get fired a lot. There’s something wholly satisfying about manual labor in the dank, dark coolness, as well as there is to the cataloguing and physical Tetris-ing of bottles and cases. The whole collector thing feels like a phantom vestigial limb as evidence of the hunter gatherer instinct, and there’s definitely some of that going on here. But the repetitive, focused, and usually uninterrupted activity soothes the savage synapses, at least in this particular animal. Huh. Maybe I’m a touch autistic? Though without the sorting, stashing, and on-the-fly spacial problem solving, the repetition would get old real quick. So, maybe I’m OCD-istic? I don’t see this one being added to the DSM-5 anytime soon, and doesn’t seem to be a condition that requires professional intervention. … Wait, what was the question? Meanwhile, here above ground, we’ve been pondering and adding to our collection/selection of grab ’n’ go cocktails and canned wine. The quality of liquid in alternative packing has really exploded. And while the industry is still fine tuning canning, bottling, and non-chemical preservation, today’s packaged single serving options are miles ahead of even what was available 5 years ago. For this week’s ONLINE ONLY SALE, we’re offering one each of all our current single serving wine and cocktails, at a nice discount. If you want to split hairs, Brick & Mortar Blanc and Rosé cans are the volume of a half bottle, which is really 2-3 servings. There are now 4 different Mad Med cans (natural wine): fresh and lightly tart Le Rosé and La Bulle (sparkling rosé) join last year’s favs Le Rouge and L’Orange. Bushido Sake is light and clean with just a ghost of sweetness and florals. Empirical Can(s) 01 and 02 are back; totally unique brewed fizzy cocktails of balance and complexity. Social Hour Whiskey Sour is a not-messing-around cocktail at 20% alcohol and with Dickel 13yr as its base spirit; take this one home and pour it over ice. The Jazz Daredevil is a fictional H. Jon Benjamin character who is now the proprietor of this stripped down Whiskey Highball, sure to delight the sensibilities of grandpas everywhere. The latest addition is the C. Cassis CC Spritz Blackcurrant Aperitif, which is like a dangerously crushable adult rendition of Welch’s Grape soda without any of the syrupy sweetness and chemical crap. And of course you’ll get one each of our go-to local favorites: St Agrestis Negroni, St Agrestis Spritz, Greenhook Ginsmiths Gin & Tonic, and Van Brunt Still House Bay Street Buck. It’s a pack full of fun things to have in your fridge ready to go. As always this sale is ONLINE ONLY! (!)
