Yo La Tengo Free Rangers,
But what that it is remains to be seen. Just gotta get up every day, open the window and see what season it is, layer accordingly, and get after it. Will it be a bright warm mid-spring kinda day or are we in for a subtropical snow-icane? Last week we saw a fairly rare heater-on day and AC-on day consecutively. It smells a bit like earthquake weather at the moment. Whatever it is, I’m sure it’s fine.
Wait what? You haven’t checked out the Super Sale Page?! Well, turn it up…
SUPER SALE PAGE
So, this week’s FREE in-store tasting is a rare opportunity to experience three different vintages of the same tiny production organic Barolo side by side. And Barolo is of course, the most important region in Italy for Nebbiolo, one of their most exalted and expressive grapes. So, tomorrow, February 13th (5-7pm) enjoy FREE tastes of Camparo Barolo 2016, 2011, and 2009, along with the deeply informed thoughts of our charming importer friend, John. There really is no substitute for comparative tasting in the education of one’s palate. We’re all just making shit up, some of us have just tasted (thousands) more things. Others glean from books what they are supposed to taste in specific grapes and regions and cloak their thoughts in the corresponding veil. But we’ve always preferred to taste as many bottles as possible and let the synapses decide what we taste. Two factors are primarily at play in vertical tasting: 1) differences between vintages (at harvest) 2) effects of aging from the amount of time in bottle; and the inherent effects of each on the other. It’s complicated, but becomes less so with said juice on your tongue. All week online, and in the shop on tasting day get 20% off a vertical 3-pack, or 10% off the 2016, or 20% off 2016 6-pack! For those of you already familiar with the current vintage of this lovely balanced Barolo, known around these parts as Butterfly Wine, you’re welcome to get in on the sale anytime this week, and still come taste with us tomorrow.
