Hey Free Rangers,
What’d I miss? What’s the score here? I mean, what day is this… man? Every next sentence has been deleted for some time, but I have no real concept of time anymore. Many lines sacrificed all for being just a little too much out here in the desert of the real. The writer escapes me who said that the hardest part of the work is being prepared to cut your favorite scene. Those of us more precious of the prose would reframe that as prepared to cut one’s favorite line (or clause, or phrase, or word). Though none of these recently lost lines qualify. Just too fraught with the reality of the(se) day(s). I recall as an angry young man, posing a question to whom I felt to be the smartest and most honest of my high school friend’s parents, but this was a year or two into college (under Bush the Junior): “has it always been this bad?” Mr. Greenberg took a beat and with the sincerest of shrugs replied evenly, with just the slightest soupçon of bemused chuckle beneath, “Well, yeah.” Perhaps this is why the Monday e-mail finds its way to you this Wednesday evening. It’s always something. Who else needs a drink? A crisp, chiseled French Chardonnay perhaps?
This brings us to this week’s ONLINE ONLY sale showcasing the unreasonably delicious Chablis of Jean Dauvissat, from this balanced and beautiful vintage of 2023. The baseline offer from this lovely label is very likely the single most consumed in the shop bottle of last year- and we can drink pretty much whatever we want. The quality per dollar here is off the charts, the production is tiny, and we bought as much as we could get. Holy cr@p, I love chardonnay. Click the link below for specifics on each of the three explosively serene 1er Cru wines, but the discounts break down like this: 10% off all, 25% off mixed 6-packs!

Now, this week’s FREE in-store tasting welcomes back to the shop- after a very long absence- Brooklyn’s own Red Hook Winery. No, the grapes aren’t raised in Brooklyn, but the local winery has partnered with some of the finest growers of vinifera on Long Island, and yes there are a handful of very serious growers out there, including Jamesport Vineyard. This week, nay, TOMORROW, Thursday, March 12th (5-7pm) we’ll be pouring FREE tastes of:
Red Hook Winery Jamesport Vineyard Chardonnay 2014
Red Hook Winery Jamesport Vineyard Cabernet Franc 2019
Red Hook Winery Jamesport Vineyard Petit Verdot 2016
Red Hook Winery ‘Black and Blue’ Reserve Red Blend 2019
