Hey Free Rangers,
We’ll return to the swirling Sea of Stories soon, but for today, there is too much to talk about here in the desert of the real to indulge too deeply in the latter, but soon…
So, this offer was going to be an in-store tasting, but wires were crossed and we figured we’d just pump out the extremely limited super delicious Chablis x3 of Domaine Jean Dauvissat! Domaine Jean Dauvissat Père et Fils is currently owned and operated by Fabien Dauvissat, an ambitious 30-something winemaker who has taken his father’s grape growing operation to an organic estate (working toward Demeter biodynamic certification), reduced yields, and is producing some of the most compelling Chardonnay per dollar spent of which we are aware in the world. These are clean, chiseled, expressions that easily compete with wines from the same region that retail for 3-4x the price. Not only did we get a bumper crop of village level Jean Dauvissat Chablis 2022, but we luckily scored a small amount two of his lieu dit(s)- or single property designations- which are quite stunning, one lightly richer, and one a steely, citrusy pucker bomb. On top of all this, the labels are amongst the most attractive we’ve ever seen, and these stunning objects make a wonderful gift (even if only to yourself). One can simply not say enough about the quality and intent of these exciting wines. Get in on these delicious Chablis at 10% off, or 20% off 6+ bottles (mix & match) right here, this week only!

Also, this week’s FREE in-store tasting is with our friends at Social Hour Cocktails, who produce some of our favorite single serving canned cocktails. Please join us this Thursday, August 29th (5-7pm), for FREE tastes of Social Hour Yuzu Sunset Fizz, a delightfully spritzy citrus fizz, and Social Hour Black Pepper Paloma, a lightly spicy accent to the classically fresh tequila cocktail. Also, enjoy 10% off in-store on tasting day!
And finally, with a bit more ado, comes our latest offer of Magical Mystery Packs! For those of you who have not been with us for one of these, this is a fairly unique opportunity to pick up some old and rare wine (in some cases, irreplaceable) at well below market value. The packs detailed below are drawn from bottles lost and found in the considerable depths of our cellar, and from my unruly personal collection (and past auction purchases), randomly packed in Free Range bottle carriers. Absolutely none of these are cast-offs, and the vast majority were originally purchased with personal consumption in mind, but as we’ve discussed, I own far more wine than one could ever possibly consume.
Each pack below contains mostly Oregon Pinot Noir 1999-2019, a period I consider to be one of the greatest runs of grape and region that has occurred in our lifetimes. Two decades of an almost uninterrupted string of very good to excellent vintages for Pinot Noir ended abruptly with the disastrous 2020 fire ravaged harvest season that smoked out a sizable percentage of the Valley’s best fruit. Each 3-pack will contain no more than 1 CA Pinot, and each 6-pack no more than 2 CA Pinot. So, let’s call these Mystery *Mostly* OR Pinot Noir Packs!
*Mostly* OR 3-Pack: $99
A selection of *mostly* Oregon Pinot Noir 1999-2019, maybe 1 bottle of CA Pinot of similar age range.
*Mostly* OR 6-Pack: $259
A few similar selections of *mostly* Oregon Pinot to the 3-Pack, with added next level reserve and single vineyard bottles.
Rockstar *Mostly* OR 6-Pack: $475
A handful of the best of what goes into the OR 6-pack, and at least 1 or 2 irreplaceable bottles of historical significance, possibly older than ‘99. As always, the retail value will far outpace your sale price.
Example: This irreplaceable Ken Wright Arcus Vineyard Pinot from 2001 will definitely go into one of OR 6-packs (but not OR 3-pack), whereas these 2011 and 2012 Patricia Green Reserve and single vineyards (or Ken Wright Willamette ’12) could go into either. This Domaine Serene Evanstad Reserve 2013 will go into a OR 6-pack (but not 3-pack), whereas these Stoller Estate ’07 and ‘08s could go into either. Each OR 6-pack will contain at least 2 of such next level bottles, of double plus deliciousness and scarcity. For those of you who feel like treating yourselves, there’s the Rockstar 6-pack which will contain a handful of the best of what goes into the OR 6-pack, and at least 1 or 2 irreplaceable bottles of historical significance, possibly older than ‘99. As always, the retail value will far outpace your sale price.
If you’re open to a bottle of white in your pack, please click the applicable box on your pack(s) of choice. And should you have particular preference for or against CA, please say so in notes at checkout and we’ll do our best to accommodate, but ix-nay on the requesting specific bottles please!
