Venge Family Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2003

"When Knud Venge emigrated from Denmark in the early 1900s, he never imagined that he would be farming vitis vinifera grape varieties on his farm in Napa Valley. He and his son, Per, began their time in the beverage industry after creating Vencom Imports, a importation company focused on fine wines and spirits from Western Europe. In the 1960s, Per’s son, Nils Venge, left the family importing business with a vision to study viticulture at University of California at Davis and begin an icon for their family name in the wine world. He purchased a 17 acre piece of land in Oakville in 1976, and in 2008, his son, Kirk, became the sole owner of the vineyards there and in Calistoga. Along with their estate wines, Venge also produce a range of single-vineyard wines from purchased fruit with a production of only a couple hundred cases of each. From a Cabernet Sauvignon from the Bone Ash vineyard in Calistoga to a Pinot Noir from the Bacigalupi vineyard in the Russian River Valley, these single-vineyard wines are some of the most esteemed in the Venge portfolio, and have received high scores from the press so tend to sell our quickly and repeatedly."
