“Our loved ones demand honesty,
but what they really want is better fiction.”
– David Byrne
Hey Free Rangers,
First some housekeeping:
1) Sazerac/Buffalo Trace Fam sale is live for one more week. While many cherries have been picked, we’re still offering the lowest prices around on Buffalo Trace, Elmer T Lee, EH Taylor Small Batch, and more! Check out what you’ve been missing here: Sazerac/Buffalo Trace Sale!
2) Sean Thackrey sale page is still active. Realized Pleiades got left out of the last e-mail, but are available on the website. These absolutely delicious lighter style old vine field blends are fully mature, showing beautifully, and are the best priced of his older wines. Check that out here: Sean Thackrey Sale!
3) This week’s FREE in-store tasting is with our friend, Gaby, who will be here showing off at least 3 whiskeys (likely all Bourbon) from the famed Willett Distillery. So, this Thursday, April 3rd (5-7pm), please join us for FREE tastes of Old Bardstown Bourbon, Old Bardstown 101°, and Noah’s Mill. These are also 10% off, in-store on tasting day only!
Now, sometimes you spend a full day doing your job at a fairly high level (you think). A hard but rewarding type of day. Good numbers, largely fulfilled customers, and solid team play. Then (maybe) you have a little celebratory snort of one of your favorite limited bourbons from last year. It reminds you of your other favorite, which bears a refreshing taste for comparison. But then, is it possible that the new(er) Nashville Barrel Co 8yr Bourbon of Barrel #5508 is even better than than these two wholly quintessential 100° 10 and 16 year bourbons? Well, the only way to know is side by side tasting. And then maybe, with your heart full of joy, you think it would be funny to reply to a couple of those 1 star reviews online that are likely not from real customers. And then you wake up the next day to a fresh 1-star review from Chloe, who has nothing specific to say about the (alleged) interaction, but is pretty sure that she hates you….
To our face(s) we hear lovely things all day like, “You’re heroes in the neighborhood [caveat redacted].” Then online, Chloe says we’re “mansplaining idiots” and “rude hipsters”. Well, we’re not for everybody, and the only people who seem interested to say so in public are fragile little creatures who need to be told how right they are about their absurd assumptions. Can’t win ‘em all. But we did break sales records in the same year that we received our worst online ratings yet. So, big thanks to all of you who make these online public tantrums completely irrelevant to our continued existence (though sometimes, they’re still kind of a bummer). You rule (also if you know anybody at Google, please ask them why 20 fake online reviews have been “pending review” for 4 months).
This is one of the reasons we work so hard to maintain our series of engaging in-store tastings and compelling online sales like this one! It’s a bit of an eclectic mix bag of spirits today, largely of the lost & found from the ongoing inventory project, as well as some random (and occasionally rare) one offs. Amongst the slew of American Whiskeys from the likes of Heaven Hill, Kings County, Orphan Barrel, St. George, Penelope, Michter’s, etc., you’ll also find several Tequilas, Irish & Scotch whiskeys, Roulot Citron Liqueur, and a bit of Yellow Chartreuse, all at the lowest prices of the year!
