The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru is reticent and tightly wound at this stage. That should not be much of an issue in a few years, once the wine starts to enter the first part of its drinking window. There is plenty of depth to the dark cherry, tobacco, mint, herb and earthy tones. Unfortunately, there are just two barrels to go around. The 2016 needs time to incorporate all of its oak, but readers should not plan on opening bottles anytime soon. - Antonio Galloni
