Hola Free Rangers,
There was a fairly detailed paragraph here about the upcoming NYC Mayoral primary, but as it’s too late to register, and well over a month until the actual primary, it just seems the wrong moment. That being said, we have received nothing but praise for the Zohran Mamdani poster in our window- and we normally don’t do posters. But after a well intentioned, unprepared idiot (cough, cough, de Blasio) and a pathological liar, unrepentant criminal, and now wholly owned agent of the current White House (Eric Adams- no coughing necessary, we’ve known what a fraud this guy is since he tried to claim his legal residence as his son’s Brooklyn basement), it is necessary to loudly back a true progressive with a real track record. I don’t know if you drink, Mr. Mamdani (may we call you Zohran?), but we’d love to pour you one, shake your hand, and talk about a few specifics in your admirable platform. It has never been more important to back true progressives at the local level while the Orange Orangutan ponders openly defying the Supreme Court. Just another day in paradise.
While it may have seemed a bit out of season that we poured three big fancy Italian reds last week for our last in-store tasting, but we think it’s okay to wear white pants after Labor Day, drink white with steak (red with fish), and have a world class, blood of the Earth red anytime, regardless of what the calendar and/or local meteorologist may have to say on the matter. Semi-related, stay tuned below for deep discounts on Paolo Bea wines from 2012 to 2021, reds, (off) whites, and a vertical of uber rare Passito to boot.
This week’s FREE in-store tasting is with All Points West from New Jersey. While they make some solid whiskeys, this round we’ll be showcasing everything else! So this Thursday, May 1st (5-7pm), please join us for FREE tastes of All Points West Bone Black Vodka (it’s clear), Cat House Pink Pepper Gin (it’s pink and a little spicy), and their newer release, Kill Van Kull Single Pot Still Rum (which I am also looking forward to tasting). Per usual, all All Points West bottles are 10% off in-store on tasting day only!
Now, back to the Paolo Bea vertical sale! So, the estate is now run primarily by Giampiero Bea (son of Paolo) who is an architect by trade, and also happens to vinify some of the world’s most compelling wine. On top of this, the estate bottles some of the worlds most beguiling olive oil, and produces some of the finest ancient grain flours, pastas, and dried peas and lentils in the world. Sadly, cumbersome New York liquor laws forbid us from selling you any of those nonalcoholic edibles, but the wines we have in significant quantity, considering their scarcity. If I had ever bothered to grow up, I maybe would’ve liked to be this guy. But it’s enough for me that I get to sell (and often drink- and eat) the fruits of his labor.
As well as the much lauded recent releases, we have tiny amounts of previous vintages going back to 2012, including a five vintage vertical of Pipparello, Bea’s flagship Sangiovese forward blend. Full cuvée and vintage details can be found on the sale page.
All in-stock Paolo Bea (besides a tiny number of insanely rare big bottles) are available ONLINE ONLY at 10% off, or 20% off 6+ bottles (mix & match).
